Chronic myeloid leukemia is a clonal disease that results from an acquired genetic change in a single pluripotential hemopoietic stem cell. Efforts to confront this disease have been assisted by advances in cellular and molecular biology and the speed at which these findings have transformed the therapeutic algorithm. Nevertheless, there is some uncertainty with regards to how best to assess efficacy of treatment, especially with regards to the most appropriate surrogate markers for overall survival. From the standpoint of biology and clinical management, this handbook provides an authoritative state-of-the-art review of current and developing progress. Features Explores current and developing progress in chronic myeloid leukemia Discusses how to assess efficacy of treatment Evaluates the appropriateness of surrogate markers for overall survival Table of Contents An introduction to chronic myeloid leukemia A historical perspective of chronic myeloid leukemia Cytogenetics, molecular anatomy, and molecular biology of chronic myeloid leukemia Clinical aspects, prognostic and predictive factors Primary treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia Secondary treatment and stem cell transplantation for chronic myeloid leukemia Emerging and investigational treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia Definitions of response and monitoring response for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia Resistance to tyrosine kinase inhibitors and novel insights into genomic instability of chronic myeloid leukemia stem cells Concluding thoughts “In this volume, Dr. Tariq Mughal chronicles the history of this field and provides succinct and reasoned analyses of the current treatment approaches and controversies in CML. Both the general practitioner and the specialist will find much of value herein.” —Richard Van Etten, M.D., Ph.D., Tufts Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts, USA “ … a comprehensive yet highly readable text on CML. It includes historical reference, clinical pearls, molecular biology, and common sense in a clear, organized manner. You will even find inclusion of the humanities (references to history and literature!) and humor, all of which so sadly missing from most scholarly works. Reader, do not waste your time jumping from one internet link to another, trying to distinguish fact from fiction, and organizing the information into digestible content. Find a nice chair, a good light, and enjoy-Dr. Mughal has done the work for you. All you need to do is read, learn, and transmit your new knowledge to your patient’s care.” —Jerry Radich M.D., Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, Washington, USA "This is a fantastic book." —Professor Rüdiger Hehlmann, Medizinische Fakultät Mannheim der Universität Heidelberg, Germany “Professor Mughal is a world renowned leader in the field of the molecular pathogenesis and therapy of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). This illustrative handbook provides essential insights into the paradigmatic role of CML research in guiding the inception and maintenance of molecularly targeted therapy. The robust genetic dissection of chronic myeloid leukemic blastic transformation and therapeutic resistance has informed the development of diagnostic and prognostic tools as well as therapeutic strategies that reach far beyond CML to a broad array of recalcitrant malignancies. Enjoy!” —Catriona Jamieson, M.D., Ph.D., UCSD Cancer Center, La Jolla, California, USA “ … a remarkable effort which summarizes the current state-of-affairs. I recommend it very highly." —Professor Tiziano Barbui, Bergamo, Italy

Book condition
An important factor of a second-hand book is the condition of the book. The buyer may not be surprised. Always mention damages or defects. We use a system with 3 stars:
The book is acceptable: you have used it to study and made notes and markings – but everything is still readable. The cover and pages are in good condition.
The book still looks good: there are a few notes in it and you marked it. There are hardly any signs of use on the cover and pages
The book is (almost) new: you have not written or marked in it. There are no signs of use on the cover and pages
